How UK Redundancy Pay Works

Statutory redundancy pay is calculated based on your age, weekly gross pay (capped at £643 for 2025/26), and length of service (capped at 20 years). Each year of service earns you a multiplier based on your age during that year. Employees under 22 receive half a week's pay per year; those aged 22–40 receive one week; and those aged 41 and over receive one and a half weeks. The total payment is tax-free up to £30,000.

Enhanced Redundancy Pay

Many UK employers offer enhanced redundancy packages above the statutory minimum. These are outlined in your employment contract or company policy. Enhanced pay may be calculated differently — for example, using your actual weekly pay without the £643 cap, or offering more weeks per year of service. Always check your contract before accepting a redundancy offer.
